Volunteers

1 And Done!

Without volunteers, the Broadus Wood PTO simply wouldn't exist. Having a vibrant, engaged community is so important to helping our school achieve its goals. But being a volunteer doesn't mean you need to commit to hours a week. That's why we're asking for everyone to commit to helping out with just one activity this year.

To start, fill out our Volunteer Survey. This will help us to put you in touch with our Event Chairs (if you know what activities you like), the staff (if you'd like to help at school), or to find a match with your interests. To fill out the survey, simply click on this linkWe'll also have sign-up sheets at the Open House and at our Back-to-School Picnic.

The information below describes in more detail what the Event Chair does for each activity and what volunteers are typically needed to do. For information about the events themselves (i.e. time, dates, order forms, etc.) please click on the 'Activities & Events' tab above.

Back-To-School Picnic

Volunteers

This year our picnic will be Friday, September 16th. The PTO Board are the primary volunteers for this event, but additional assistance is welcome in the following areas:

Set-up: Help to set up tables and supplies about half an hour before the picnic starts.

Clean-up: Help to take down the tables and assist the custodians after the picnic.

Ice: Bring a cooler of ice for drinks.

Muffin Wednesday

Chair
The chair for this event needs to manage the SignUp page and recruit volunteers for each Wednesday.

Volunteers
For each Wednesday, two volunteers are asked to bring in breakfast items for about 20 people. Muffins can be on the menu, of course, but you can bring in anything you would like. Some past treats have been yogurt and granola cups, fruit, bagels and cream cheese, donuts, granola bars, quiche, tea, juice, coffee, etc. The PTO has plates, utensils and napkins. Everything needs to be delivered and set up by 7:30 am. The first Muffin Wednesday is scheduled to take place on October 7th

After School Clubs

Chair

The chair for this is responsible for recruiting parents and teachers to hold clubs for the fall, winter, and spring sessions. He or she must also send out registration forms, post descriptions of the clubs, collect registrations and fees, and also coordinate with outside vendors. Our co-chairs for this year are Betsy Greco and Nikki Emert.

Volunteers
Would you be interested in holding a club? Our parents and teachers bring their enthusiasm and interests to share with our students. Past activities have included dance, chess, computer coding, music, and more. Clubs are held for an hour, once a week, for six weeks. This fall the club program will begin in September. Please see this form for detailed instructions on how to form a club and the club webpage. For additional questions, please contact Betsy Greco at betsygreco@gmail.com or 973-5105.

Fall Festival

Chair
The chair is responsible for coordinating the various activities - Trick-or-Trunk, the raffle, and the gym activities. This includes advertising the event to the school, getting additional volunteers for the night of the event, decorating, set-up and clean-up.

Volunteers
We need people to help with the following activities:
Trick-or-Trunk - We need people to decorate their car trunks for Trick-or-Trunk, which is held in the parking lot.
Gym activities - Volunteers are needed to help assist with the various activities held in the school, such as games, crafts, and stories.

Election Day Bake Sale - November 8

Chair
The chair is responsible for recruiting bakers, collecting the baked goods the day before, and overseeing the sale.

Volunteers
We need bakers! Volunteers for this event bake something and drop it off either the day before or during the bake sale itself. Cakes are especially popular, but everything is welcome, including baked goods for diabetics or that are gluten-free. Volunteers are also needed to sell the baked goods during the sale.

Book Fair

Chair
The chair works with our librarian to advertise the book fair, receive and set up the books, plans events for Book Fair week, recruits volunteers to help with the sale times, and sets up the on-line sales. This year we will hold the Book Fair in the spring.

Volunteers
There are several ways to help with the book fair. Wish list assistants help the younger grades during library time to write down their book choices. Cashiers help with sales during the morning, afternoon, and evenings when sales take place. We also need people to help with setting up and taking down the book displays.

Talent Show

Chair
The chair for this event advertises the event, organizes and holds rehearsals, recruits other volunteers, and oversees the event itself. This year our co-chairs are Amy Scherer and Krissy Pitts.

Volunteers
Volunteers are asked to help with the rehearsals; assisting students the night of the performance, selling concessions, and with clean-up.

Chair
The chair is tasked with choosing a theme, advertising, providing the music, decorating, recruiting volunteers to assist with the event, and clean-up. Our co-chairs this year are Nikki Emert and Lisa Fischer.

Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help with decorating the gym, selling concessions, and clean-up.

Chair
The chair for this event works with Kegler's to choose a time and date, advertises the event, assigns teams to lanes, and collects the fees from each team. Although the date is set, we need a new chair to lead.

Inquiry Fair

Chair
The chair for our science fair works with the school to set the date; sends out instructions and invitations; creates a schedule for the day of the event; and sets up the displays in the gym.

Staff Appreciation Week - May 1 to 5

Chair
The chair(s) for this event choose a theme to celebrate our staff; chooses a variety of activities for each day; recruits volunteers for each activity; and coordinates the set-up of the luncheon. We need a new chair for this event.

Volunteers
In the past, volunteers for this week have helped provide a staff breakfast; a lunch for each teacher; raffle and gift items; and decorations for teachers' rooms.

Yearbook

Chair
Our yearbook chair is tasked with overseeing the production of the school yearbook, from working with a publisher, to collecting photos, layout of the book, to taking orders and distribution of the books. We need a new chair for our yearbook.

Volunteers
The biggest need is for parents to share their photos from throughout the year.
